New Home...New Projects

Happy Tuesday!! I feel like it has been awhile since I made a posting so let me catch you up. I bought a house!!!! After a billion delays, everything finally went through. I am just beyond happy. New house now equals new DIY projects.

So far Mission #1 was to unpack the kitchen. I kid you not it took me three hours to do this. I had no idea a kitchen can be so time consuming. But I think it turned out quite nicely.

Mission #2 get rid of this UGLY yellow in the guest bedroom

....And I did...what do you guys think?

Until next time guys :)

Sewing Challenge Part 1

Garment Sewing Challenge: May 2012

Happy Tuesday to you all. So I am beginning to make progress with this challenge. I took some time out yesterday to come up with ideas. One thing I saw on the contest rules is that you can refashion existing garments as long as a sewing machine/hand sewing is involved. This seems to be right up my ally. I love turning ugly, used, worn out things into something beautiful.

I have this dress that I got from the Goodwill for $6.75. It's ok looking but it doesn't have the most flattering look on my body type. So for my challenge I will cut it up and turn that dress into a very trendy skirt. I'm super excited. So stay tuned to follow my journey. Until next time

Garment Sewing Challenge

Garment Sewing Challenge: May 2012

Happy Monday everyone. So I am super excited. I have great news. Well let's hope it's great news and not potential suicide. hahaha. But I decided to join this contest. It's called "Garment Sewing Challenge." Participants have to make one garment that they would be PROUD to wear in public then viewers/the public will vote on it. I'm super excited about it but nervous at the same time. I do think that I am creative enough to do this and I think it'll be a great way to further advertise my blog. Regardless I will be very proud of whatever I sew and I will blog about my progress every step of the way. Until next time :)

Decorative Wallplate

Happy Saturday to you all. I hope everyone had a well rested weekend thus far. My DIY project for this weekend was a Decorative Wallplate. I was going to do a step by step tutorial but it's pretty much the same steps as the Coaster Tutorial. The only difference is instead of ceramic tile, I used a Wallplate. It's super easy to do & super cute. If you attempt this DIY, post pics on here. I'd love to see it..take care guys..

Ceramic Coaster Part 2

Hello to you all. I hope everyone is having a great Friday. I just wanted everyone to know I did attempt to make additional coasters last night. These coasters have a border around them. In yesterdays post I said I'd show you all what they would look like if you decided to do a border. Take Care and don't forget to come back for the next tutorial. That one will consist of face plates for electrical sockets. Happy Friday

Ceramic Coaster: Why buy? Just Make it

Happy Thursday to you all!! I hope this week is treating you right. Last night I decided to try the DIY Ceramic Tile project that I posted about earlier this week. I must say..it came out nice. This post will be a tutorial so that you all can go home and do-it-yourself.

Step 1: Get your supplies together

-Four 8x8 tiles (Home Depot for $0.16/tile)
-Tarp (this isn't mandatory but I recommend putting something down so you don't get glue on your floor. Don't use plastic, it'll stick to your tiles)
-Scissors
-Mod Podge Paste (about $6)
-Mod Podge Acrylic Glossy Sealer (about $6)
-Tacky Glue (about $3)
-Scrapbook paper (about $0.97/sheet)(of your choosing)
-Foam brush (about $1)
-Paint tray, (about $0.97) dish, whatever you want to use to put the glue in
-Cork on the roll or sheet (about $3.97 at Jo-Ann's)

Step 2: Cut your scrapbook paper into squares

-Now with this, you can make the scrapbook paper the same size of the tile or a bit smaller. If you make it a bit smaller, the tile will have a border. Either way will look nice. I will try to do some with a border tonight and post it tomorrow..deal?

Step 3: Get your paste together

Step 4: Spread your paste on the tiles

Step 5: Place your scrapbook squares on the tile

Let this sit for about 15 minutes or so. You basically want this to dry/adhere before you continue to mess around with it.

Step 6: Put Mod Podge Paste on top

When you put the mod podge on top of the tile, you will notice it becomes white looking. This is very normal. It will dry clear I promise. Let this sit until dry.
It will look like this once it's dry. Clear again

Step 7: Get your Mod Podge Acrylic Spray ready

This is what it looks like after you spray it. Nice and glossy

Now let this dry. Maybe an hour or so. I actually fell asleep and woke up in the morning and they were dry.

Step 8: Get your Cork backing ready

For this step I cut the cork backing similar to how I cut the scrapbook paper.

Step 9: Place Tacky Glue on the back of the tile

Step 10: Place cork backing on

I flipped them over once I glued them on so they could dry/adhere better

Step 11: Once dried, cut off any excess cork and ta-da you're done...ENJOY THOSE COASTERS :)

This item will also be sold in my ETSY shop

Got Lemons? Throw Them..or Make Lemonade

Happy Tuesday everyone. Boy has this been a really tough week. I had to move out of my apartment last Saturday and I was supposed to close on this home last Friday. Seemed like a pretty good plan right? Well not so much. It turned out that my closing date was pushed back due to an issue with the seller. Talk about a worse case scenario. So my living situation is not as I'd hope but i'm hoping that will turn around in the next 48 hours. **fingers crossed** I'm trying very hard to stay positive, so I'll tell you about some things I found while searching the internet.

1. Jo-Ann's Fabric is having a really great "web exclusive" fabric sale. Every yard of fabric is on sale. From 30-50% off. If you are like me and always has a project looming around the corner, this may be a great time to stock up.

2. I don't know about you but I am horrible with always trying to figure out exactly how many yards of fabric I need to complete a project. I always seem to have way more then I need. I guess it's better to have more then less right? Well I found this app for my Iphone. It's called Fabric Converter and it's in the Apple Store. Check it out when you get a chance

3. Last but not least. I found this blogger named Two Girls Being Crafty. She decorated these coasters with scrapbook paper. Super super cute. I have a flea market show to do on the 12th. I will be making these for sure and adding them into my Etsy shop.

Well until the next post...
